moving into words

this is how i remember it

this is how i remember it

you and i are walking

                                      of course we're walking

round the lake in regents park where ernest dukes once took tim and me in a row boat & you walked along the bank as fast as you could to keep up with us but we left you far behind

i knew you wanted to be there when we stepped out of the boat and back onto dry land

this time i'm about to have my own child

he's still curled up in my belly

you say

this is the closest your mother and i have ever come to separating

i know you're not blaming me

confusion and dismay make it hard

for you to hide anything
